In 2009 Ian Garlant relocated from a glamorous London life in fashion back to his childhood home in Hatlestrand. Having privately pursued his art throughout an international design career, he now began to concentrate exclusively on developing and perfecting the techniques and ideas with which he had previously experimented. As his work progressed throughout the year, so did the involvement of the community in its production. Surprisingly early on during this process, Ian was invited to exhibit at the Norwegian Embassy in London UK, at a solo London Exhibition curated by Kay Saatchi and to Show his work in Oslo, Hatlestrand and Ulvik ; this has generated extensive coverage in the press and television.
Ian`s career has included many years as Design Director for Hardy Amies, an international fashion house which in addition to creating couture garments for men and women also manufactured an extensive range of products worldwide, from luxury household goods and interior design. This has given him a sound understanding and mastery of remit and process. In his position as couturier and tailoring consultant Ian has been commissioned by an astounding variety of customers, from Heads of State and media personalities to very private individuals.
